Develop and implement a national marketing campaign to educate the rest of the nation about the offshore oil & gas revenues that other states with offshore production recieve but that Louisiana does not. Through several obscure transactions in the distant past, Louisiana's share of offshore oil & gas tax revenue is limited to 3 miles offshore. Other similar states recieve tax revenue for all activities up to 6 miles offshore. If the laws were changed simply to make Louisiana equal to the other states our increased state revenue would be greater than the 250 billion asked for by Senators Vitter and Landrieu. Several bills have been floated to right this wrong. The problem is, this would be a major hit on federal revenues base in this time of defecit. More political points for relief aid. Oil & gas exploration is a major cause of coastal loss. We need our fair share to keep our coast & infrastructure intact.
